Avoiding Work Related Stress

Avoiding Stress at Work

Work can cause a huge amount of stress for all sorts of different reasons, from being overworked to having to learn new skills. The key to avoiding work related stress is to be prepared by facing any issues head on and dealing with them in a structured, logical manner instead of hiding behind your desk and hoping things will improve. One of the most common sources of work stress can be change often in the form of having to learn how to use new software packages or work systems.

Don’t less work related stress get you down.

Work related change can present a real challenge, especially if you have been used to doing things a certain way for a number of years and are now presented with the task of having to learn something new. Adapting to new software or procedures can be a mission on its own, and that’s before you take into account the stress of competitive work colleagues and the worry of making mistakes. Change can also play havoc with your diary, especially if you have to add tutorials and extra learning time to an already busy schedule.
Change at work can cause significant stress, resistance, fear and resentment not only towards your company, but also amongst your peers. The quickest way to overcome this is to take on a positive outlook by embracing the ways that change can have a positive impact on your life such as, improving your career prospects, improving your confidence, staying ahead of the competition, learning a new skill and even growing as a person.
Once you have accepted the changes it is always best to schedule in the time, put in the extra hours and learn to adapt as quickly as possible. This will enable you to build your confidence and become as proficient at whatever you are learning. Remember even if it seems like hard work, believe me it’s a lot harder work trying to cover up that you don’t have a clue what you’re doing and worrying about being found out.
Although change is difficult for everyone, the more you learn to adapt the easier it will become next time, meaning that you can stay ahead of the competition and be proud of the fact that you can face a challenge head on!
