Recording a Clear Audio File for Transcription

One of the most important aspects of the transcription process is a creating a high quality recording. A badly recorded audio or video file, can be a nightmare to transcribe and result in your transcription company having to spend time cleaning the audio, transcriptionists having to spend hours of extra time re-listening to files and a proofreader also having to wade through a sea of unclears. This can all be avoided by adhering to the following points.

Record your audio or video in a quiet environment (such as a quiet corner office, not a café or public area).

Record your audio using an adequate number of microphones (one between two is usually sufficient).

Avoid speaking over each other and excessive movement during the recording (this is especially important with group interviews, where whole sentences can be obliterated).

Virtually every transcript will require a certain level of research as standard, so as such, every transcriptionist knows that they need to be a good researcher. However, excessive research can be extremely time consuming, meaning that the turnaround time is increased.
