Fascinating. Of course there are also the medical trials, where they interview either the patients trying out a new medication or the medical personnel conducting the trial and who are explaining how it works.

Last but not least there are the interviews that have been broadcast on either television or radio. Now sometimes I get to see the rough cuts and get to see interviews before they are even edited and put together and before anyone else gets to see these. Often my transcripts are used to create subtitles, which people are later able to read. This is something that is becoming more and more popular on Social Media where people often watch a video with the sound turned off so they don’t disturb others and therefore need to have the subtitles to know what is going on.

But it is really the celebrity interviews that make a grey working day burst into a glitter rainbow, so to speak. Radio stations would invite their famous guests to talk about their latest film or new music album, but they want to keep a record of what was said in a file and therefore have the interview transcribed by a professional typist. You can’t deny that transcribing files like this is not exciting, it is! Your heart beats just a few beats faster and that coffee on your desk suddenly tastes like a million dollars.
