as a hobby or for your business, online videos are becoming more and more popular. Videos are a great platform for producing tutorials, keeping people up to date on important news about you or your business and for making vlogs (video blogs) or video blogs.
Having text to accompany your video means that both you and your audience gain significant benefits, when compared with using video alone.

Here are some of the main benefits for including a transcript with your videos:

Search Engine Optimization. Your videos are easier to find according to their exact content.
More enjoyable for the hard of hearing. People with hearing difficulties are able to search for video that have transcripts included.
Options for the visually impaired (with visual descriptions). If you decide to include visual descriptions with your transcript, you can include these in the form of voice overs. This means that people who are visually impaired are able to enjoy any important visual aspects of your videos.
Enhanced Learning. People who are using your video for learning are able to go through the transcript to highlight and clarify any important or difficult parts of your video. This can be especially helpful for students who are revising for an exam.

Video Transcript Layout Options

There are several variations or types of video transcript you can produce. It is best to select the style of transcript you want by considering what you want to use them for and what aspect you would like to include.

Standard Video Transcript

A standard video transcript is written in two columns, one column contains the name of the speaker and the other contains the dialogue. This kind of video transcript is often used independently as well as in conjunction with a video. For instance, as part of an article, a study aid or for reference.

Time-coded Video Transcript

A standard time coded video transcript is written using three columns; speaker, time code and dialogue. This can be used to produce accurate captioning, subtitles and to aid ease of editing video. This option also works well for audiences who are hard of hearing.

Time-coded Transcript with Descriptions

A standard time coded transcript with descriptions is written using four columns; speaker, time code, dialogue and visual description. This is also great for accurate captioning, subtitling as well as being really useful for audiences who are hard of hearing or visually impaired (when visual descriptions are added through voice overs).
Whatever your reason for making videos, it can sometimes be difficult to decide which transcript best suits you or your companies’ needs.
