Sending files for transcription from your iPhone

Sending Files Using your iPhone, Android Phone or Blackberry

One of the great things about smart phones is that they can now do so much more than simply make and receive calls. I use mine all the time for all sorts of reasons; to pick up my emails, send someone a text, take a photo or a video, keep up with Facebook or Twitter or even surf the net to make sure that I’m getting the best deal when I’m out shopping.
For this reason it is becoming more and more popular for people to make recordings for transcription using their iPhone, Blackberry or Android as a Dictaphone, which is great! In fact, many of the high end smart phones available today have very good capabilities when it come to making voice recordings containing one or two speakers (provided you speak into the microphone). This is brilliant news, as for the most part using your phone is more convenient than buying a Dictaphone or separate recording

device, especially if you only use a transcription service a couple of times a year.
Recording audio or video from your iPhone, Blackberry or Android phone is simple enough. The problems start to arise however, when you need to send a lengthy audio or video file via the internet to a colleague, friend or online transcription company, as most devices will only allow you to either email or text these files. This doesn’t really work at all for videos over 30 seconds long or audio over a few minutes and is also unreliable, as often even short files will end up lost and lonely floating around cyberspace. For this reason we thought that over the next few weeks, we would test out some of the new apps that are available from either iTunes or Google Play to see which for ones are best for sending large audio or video files. We will rank each one on price, performance, ease of use and special features.
If you would like to know more about sending sound files or video files to us for transcription via your phone, let us know. We currently are able to receive files using Dictate + Connect (Dictamus) an app that gives your phone the capability to upload files straight to our transcription services, using our upload facility, FTP, E-mail, download, WebDAV, SFTP, your Dropbox or Box account. It also accepts video and audio files and allows you to delete or move sections of your video or audio (which is great if you need to edit your files or want to save money on transcription). It’s current rating is 4 and a half stars out of five in iTunes, but we’ll do our own review too in the coming weeks.
If you have used an app to send large sound or video files via the internet from your iPhone, Blackberry and have any recommendations, we’d love to hear from you.
